U.S. Embassy in Niamey suspends routine visa services until further notice

The U.S. Embassy in Niamey has announced the suspension of all routine visa services, effective immediately. This decision affects both immigrant and nonimmigrant visa categories, including those for tourists, business travelers, students, and exchange visitors. The embassy has notified affected applicants about the cancellation of their appointments.

Visa applications for certain diplomatic and official categories—A-1, A-2, G-1, G-2, G-4, C-2, and C-3—will continue to be processed as usual.

When asked about the reason for the cancellations, the embassy stated: "The Department of State is committed to ensuring that our visa process upholds the highest standards for U.S. national security and public safety."

Currently valid visas are not affected by this suspension. The embassy clarified: "No. This does not change the status of any currently valid visas."

The embassy will provide updates on its website when routine appointment scheduling resumes and will inform those whose appointments were cancelled about how to reschedule.
