A tsunami warning has been issued for the Republic of Palau after an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 occurred in Russia. According to the National Weather Service, tsunami waves between one and three feet may reach Palau, with an estimated arrival time of 3:19 p.m.
Residents and visitors have been advised to take several precautions. The guidance includes staying out of the water and away from beaches, avoiding low-lying coastal areas, and refraining from boat travel, especially in small crafts. Authorities also recommend monitoring local news outlets and the U.S. Embassy Koror Facebook page for updates.
"Do not re-enter the water or beach until the alert has passed and local authorities have said it is safe," officials stated.
