An earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale struck Kamchatka, Russia, prompting tsunami warnings for Colombia’s Pacific coast. Authorities report that the departments of Chocó, Nariño, Cauca, and Valle may be affected by incoming waves.
According to media reports and information from the Colombian National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, tsunami waves are expected to reach the Colombian coast starting around 10:00 a.m. Residents living in coastal areas have been urged to move to higher ground immediately.
