Members of the United States Coast Guard Mobile Training Team (MTT) conducted a Small Boat Operator Search and Rescue (SAR) and Towing training session for the FSM National Police Maritime Wing from June 9-20, 2025, in Pohnpei, Micronesia.
The MTT provides technical training and consulting services worldwide each year. Their work includes maritime law enforcement, marine safety, environmental protection, small boat operation and maintenance, search and rescue, port security, and infrastructure development for countries with maritime law enforcement programs. More information about the USCG MTT can be found at https://www.forcecom.uscg.mil/Our-Organization/FORCECOM-UNITS/TraCen-Yorktown/International-Training/International-Mobile-Training-Branch/.
This year’s training covered risk management practices, man overboard drills, vessel maneuvering techniques, engine casualty controls, navigational charting methods, and search patterns. The aim was to help FSM maritime law enforcement officers and emergency responders improve their skills necessary for effective SAR operations across the country.
A total of 29 officers from the FSM National Police Maritime Wing participated in the program. Chief Steward Peter led the group alongside LCDR Paul Norton and his team of Navy Maritime Security and Technical Advisors at the agency.
“Hats off to both teams for a very productive two weeks of thorough and impressive Small Boat Operations course!”
