Residents and travelers in Papua, North Sulawesi, and the Maluku islands have been advised to take precautions after Indonesian authorities issued a tsunami advisory warning. The alert follows a major earthquake that took place near Kamchatka, Russia on the morning of July 30.

According to the U.S. Consulate General Surabaya, "Jayapura, Papua has received a tsunami warning (Level 2 of 3 on a three-point warning scale) and some areas in the Maluku islands, West Papua, and North Sulawesi have received advisories (Level 1 of 3 on a three-point warning scale)."

Authorities recommend avoiding coastal areas and roads in affected regions. People are encouraged to seek secure shelter if they are in these zones and to monitor local media for further updates. The consulate also advises notifying friends and family about personal safety status.
