The U.S. Embassy in Praia has begun construction on a new embassy building, with a ceremony marking the start of the $443 million project. U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Adams attended the event alongside Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva and Mayor of Praia Francisco Carvalho.
“Breaking ground today on our new embassy literally cements our cooperation with Cabo Verde, sending a clear message that the United States is here for the long term,” said Ambassador Adams. “This new embassy is a very visible sign of how our historic ties continue to deepen and expand.”
The project is managed by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations, which oversees planning, design, and construction of diplomatic facilities globally.
