The U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan and the State Library of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan held a Book Fair in Ashgabat on July 24, 2025. The event focused on promoting literature and strengthening cultural connections between the United States and Turkmenistan.
The fair presented more than 14 bilingual editions of American classics translated into Turkmen, as well as a broad selection of American literature for children and young adults. Attendees had access to English and STEM learning resources through American Spaces in Turkmenistan, explored the eLibraryUSA digital library, and received information about educational opportunities in the United States. Interactive exhibits were also available for visitors of all ages.
U.S. Ambassador Elizabeth Rood gave a collection of classic American literature translated into Turkmen to the State Library. In her remarks, Ambassador Rood said: “Whether we are turning the pages of famous American novels or the world-renowned poetry of Magtymguly Pyragy, books ignite our imagination and open the door to our dreams.”
Among the featured works were new additions to the bilingual collection such as Hidden Figures, The Giving Tree, and The Girl Who Helped Thunder and Other Native American Folktales. These books, along with other U.S. publications on English learning, STEM topics, and professional development, are now available at American Spaces locations in Ashgabat, Mary, Turkmenabat, and Dashoguz.
