The USS Frank Cable, a U.S. Navy submarine tender, has arrived in Brisbane, Australia, for a scheduled port visit on July 26, 2025. The vessel is currently operating within the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations and plays a key role in maintaining undersea forces throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

U.S. Consul General Jeremy Cornforth remarked on the significance of this visit: “Welcome back to Brisbane USS Frank Cable! This return port visit by USS Frank Cable demonstrates the enduring connections forged in 2022 when the ship’s crew supported flood disaster relief efforts in Queensland. These ties symbolize the close partnership between our two nations, including working alongside with our Australian counterparts and engaging with the local community.”

The timing of Frank Cable's visit coincides with the forthcoming commemoration of Victory in the Pacific Day on August 15, marking an important chapter in shared U.S.-Australian history. During World War II, Brisbane was pivotal as a major submarine hub for over 70 U.S. Navy submarines and three submarine tenders.

Capt. Mike Thompson, commanding officer of Frank Cable, highlighted the historical cooperation between U.S. and Australian forces: “U.S. and Australian forces have a proud history dating back to World War I of working together to further our shared commitment and values of freedom and democracy.” He added that their current visit serves to strengthen alliances committed to maintaining peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.

During its stay, Frank Cable’s crew will engage with local service groups and host a reception for community leaders, fostering community relations and mutual understanding.

Forward-deployed to Guam, Frank Cable provides crucial maintenance services to submarines and surface vessels across its operational area. It supports the U.S. 7th Fleet's mission to maintain security and freedom in regional waters through cooperation with international allies.
