Ambassador Nicole D. Theriot delivered a keynote address at the launch of the Guyana Diaspora Forum Series in Washington, D.C., highlighting the strong relationship between the United States and Guyana. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including His Excellency Ambassador Hinds and Ms. Rosalinda Rasul.

Theriot expressed her honor in serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Guyana, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Guyanese diaspora in strengthening economic ties between the two nations. "You all can and do play a pivotal role in strengthening and expanding the economic ties and providing critical expertise between the United States and Guyana," she stated.

The ambassador noted that U.S.-Guyana relations are based on shared democratic values and mutual respect, contributing to a prosperous future for both countries. She addressed concerns about security related to Venezuela, affirming U.S. support for Guyana's sovereignty: "No amount of bluster or saber-rattling can change the fact that the United States will always stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Guyana."

Theriot also discussed political stability, stating confidence in Guyana's election process while acknowledging room for improvement. "We are confident in the process and procedures of GECOM," she said.

Economic growth was another focus, with Theriot highlighting increased commercial activity between the U.S. and Guyana across various sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, energy, defense, security, and agriculture. She noted that bilateral trade reached $4.7 billion last year.

Addressing labor shortages in Guyana, Theriot encouraged diaspora involvement: "Various estimates show that Guyana needs between 60,000 and 100,000 new workers to enter the labor force right now." She highlighted efforts by the government to attract skilled individuals back to Guyana.

Theriot concluded by expressing pride in exchange programs supporting professional development for Guyanese citizens and acknowledged partnerships with U.S. companies like ExxonMobil that contribute significantly to local development.

The forum provided an opportunity for dialogue on key issues affecting both nations' partnership.
