Standard Chartered has released new research indicating a significant interest in transition investing among high-net-worth investors. The study, which is part of the bank's latest Sustainable Banking Report, shows that 87% of surveyed investors are keen on this investment area. Transition investing is defined as supporting and enabling the shift to a low-carbon economy.

The report surveyed 1,600 high-net-worth individuals from Hong Kong, India, Mainland China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates. It reveals strong investor interest in green hydrogen, low-emission fuels, and carbon capture and storage.

Despite this interest, investors face barriers such as perceived higher risks and a lack of benchmarking tools. Only 15% of respondents could fully define transition investing. To address these challenges, Standard Chartered has launched a Transition Investing Guide.

Samir Subberwal of Standard Chartered stated: "Over the years, our Sustainable Banking Reports have looked at a range of opportunities for investors...we remain committed to supporting our clients to empower them with the knowledge and tools they require to help enable the shift towards a low-carbon future."

The report suggests that further awareness is needed to bridge the knowledge gap surrounding transition investing.
