Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. in Washington, DC. The meeting took place ahead of the scheduled meeting between Presidents Marcos and Trump. According to Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Secretary Rubio and President Marcos emphasized the significance of the United States-Philippines Alliance for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. They reiterated their commitment to deterrence and reinforcing freedoms of navigation and overflight to support a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The discussions also covered efforts to enhance shared prosperity between the United States and the Philippines, particularly through the Luzon Economic Corridor. This includes strengthening supply chains and promoting economic growth in both countries.

Both leaders expressed their intention to maintain regular high-level engagement as friends, partners, and allies. This is especially significant as they approach the 80th anniversary of United States-Philippines diplomatic relations in 2026.
