Chargé Meltzer visited the German states of Hessen and Rheinland-Pfalz on July 15–16, 2025. The visit aimed to explore transatlantic security, economic partnership, and industrial innovation between the United States and Germany.
In Frankfurt, Chargé Meltzer engaged in high-level meetings focused on economic cooperation. He met with Dr. Kai Beckmann, Executive Board Member and CEO of Merck EMD Electronics, along with Maike Asmussen. They discussed Merck’s investment plans in the United States. This reflects strong bilateral trade and investment ties that drive innovation across the Atlantic. Later, he met Hesse’s Minister-President Boris Rhein to discuss U.S.-German collaboration in defense, research, and innovation.
On July 16, Chargé Meltzer delivered remarks at LANDEURO in Wiesbaden. The event is a key forum for land power and defense industry collaboration among NATO allies. His keynote emphasized the importance of this cooperation amid ongoing global conflicts.
In Rhineland-Palatinate, Chargé Meltzer met Minister-President Alexander Schweitzer to reaffirm U.S.-Rhineland-Palatinate relations. They explored opportunities for deeper cooperation in education, defense, and research sectors. The visit concluded with a tour of BioNTech’s facilities to learn about their partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb on cancer immunotherapies.
