On July 18, 2025, Chargé d’Affaires Jenifer Neidhart de Ortiz delivered remarks at the U.S. Independence Day reception in Port of Spain. She welcomed attendees on behalf of the United States Embassy and celebrated the 249th anniversary of American independence.
The event focused on the theme "Celebrating American Excellence," emphasizing the shared values between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago. Neidhart de Ortiz noted, “We celebrate not only the founding of our nation but the enduring idea that liberty, equality, and opportunity belong to all people.”
She highlighted similarities between both nations as countries founded on immigration and equality. “Trinidad and Tobago, like the United States, is a nation of immigrants – a melting pot,” she stated.
The speech also underscored America's role in technological innovation and economic growth. Neidhart de Ortiz mentioned significant achievements such as advancements in artificial intelligence and space exploration. She pointed out that trade between the two countries exceeded five billion U.S. dollars last year.
Acknowledging partnerships with Trinidad and Tobago's security services, she remarked on their cooperation for global peace and security: “We enjoy an exceptionally strong and productive relationship with our Trinbagonian law enforcement.”
Neidhart de Ortiz thanked local musicians for their performances at the event, including bands from TTDF, TT Police Service, and Trinidad & Tobago Prison Services Band. DJ Princess Cut from Atlanta was also featured for entertainment.
