National elections are scheduled to occur in Bolivia on Sunday, August 17, 2025. Historically, such events have been accompanied by demonstrations, civil unrest, and roadblocks. These activities can be unpredictable and have sometimes turned violent.

The U.S. Embassy in La Paz advises individuals to avoid areas where demonstrations and roadblocks may occur. It is recommended to exercise caution near large gatherings or demonstrations and ensure an adequate supply of food, water, and fuel for several days. Monitoring local media for updates is also advised.

Travelers are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates. Additionally, having travel documents up-to-date and easily accessible is important. Evacuation plans should not rely on U.S. Government assistance.

For assistance, the U.S. Embassy in La Paz can be contacted at +(591) (2) 216-8000 or +(591) (2) 216-8500 after hours. Email inquiries can be sent to ConsularLaPazACS@state.gov. More information is available on their website at http://bo.usembassy.gov.
