Landau meets Japanese, Korean ministers to discuss trilateral partnership

Deputy Secretary of State Landau met with Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Funakoshi Takehiro and Republic of Korea (ROK) First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoonjoo. The meeting aimed to advance the trilateral partnership among the United States, Japan, and South Korea.

During the meeting, they emphasized their commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Discussions included efforts to ensure peace and stability in the area. Deputy Secretary Landau reiterated the United States' strong defense commitments to Japan and South Korea, supported by America's military capabilities.

The officials reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea. They expressed concerns about North Korea's increasing military cooperation with Russia. Strengthening deterrence and resilience against regional security threats was also discussed.

The meeting also focused on advancing trilateral economic cooperation. This includes strengthening supply chains and collaborating on critical and emerging technologies. The participation of Japan and South Korea in the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference was noted as significant for energy security, supported by American liquified natural gas.
