On July 17, 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Cameroon launched the 18th cohort of the English Access Scholarship Program at the Douala Regional Linguistic Center. The event was presided over by John G. Robinson, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Cameroon.

The program, backed by a $30,000 USD grant (approximately 16 million CFA francs), will provide two years of English language instruction to 30 youth aged between 14 and 20. This funding will cover various expenses including tuition, instructional materials, transportation, meals, cultural enrichment activities, and program administration costs.

Since its inception, the program has benefited over 700 young Cameroonians with total scholarship funding nearing $800,000 USD (approximately 447 million CFA francs). It is part of a global initiative by the U.S. Department of State active in 75 countries aimed at enhancing English proficiency among students.

Through afterschool classes and intensive summer experiential learning, participants gain insights into American culture and values while improving their socio-economic contributions and international competitiveness.

The U.S. Embassy emphasizes its commitment to educational opportunities and cultural exchange through initiatives like this scholarship program that strengthen ties between the United States and Cameroon.
