According to media reports, the Hong Kong Observatory and Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau are expected to issue the Standby Signal T1 due to a tropical cyclone. This signal may be issued between the evening of July 18 and early morning of July 19. The weather conditions are predicted to include windy conditions, rough seas, and swells. The public is advised to avoid shorelines and refrain from water sports.
Authorities will evaluate the need for a Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal, T3, on Saturday. They will also assess whether a higher warning signal (T8 or T9) is necessary on Sunday.
"If the Typhoon Signal 8 or above is in effect at 7:00 a.m. on July 21," states the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau, "the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau will cancel all visa, passport, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, and notarial appointments scheduled for July 21, 2025." For more information about your visa or American Citizen Services appointment during this period, please visit their website.
The consulate advises residents to monitor local media as well as websites of the Hong Kong Observatory and Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau for updates. It also recommends avoiding travel until after the storm has passed and seeking secure shelter.
