The Fulbright Program, recognized as the U.S. Government's leading international educational exchange initiative, is inviting applications for its 2026-2027 Visiting Scholar Program. Each year, approximately 900 scholars and professionals globally are awarded grants to conduct advanced research and teach at universities across the United States. Lebanese academics have the opportunity to engage with U.S. institutions for periods ranging from three to ten months.

The program aims to foster mutual understanding between Americans and individuals from other countries through educational exchanges. It provides opportunities for scholars who have not previously participated in such exchanges, enriching their personal experiences as well as benefiting their home institutions and host universities in the U.S. Fulbright Scholars also serve as cultural ambassadors, sharing insights about their countries and cultures with various groups.

Over the years, the Fulbright Program has facilitated numerous scholars in establishing professional contacts within their fields, forming lasting friendships with American colleagues, developing collaborative research projects, and enhancing scholarly contributions through U.S.-based research.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must hold a Lebanese passport or a Special Travel Document for Palestinian Refugees. Those selected need to provide a copy of their passport biodata page. The program excludes U.S. citizens, dual citizens of the U.S., or U.S. lawful permanent residents (green card holders). Candidates must possess a doctoral degree or equivalent professional training and be employed at an accredited Lebanese higher education institution at application time.

Applicants should demonstrate English proficiency suitable for their proposed activities in the United States and submit a Medical History and Examination Report post-selection but pre-grant finalization.

Preference will be given to candidates without recent experience in the United States who can demonstrate cultural exchange capabilities that enhance understanding between Lebanon and America. Cross-cultural sensitivity and adaptability are key traits sought in applicants.

Interested Lebanese scholars can apply online by visiting https://apply.iie.org/fvsp2026/. A complete application includes a curriculum vitae, project statement detailing intended activities at a U.S university (to be completed within three to ten months), letters of recommendation (minimum of three), an optional letter of invitation or support from a prospective host university in the United States, and copies of relevant travel documents.

For inquiries regarding applications, candidates may contact BeirutPD@state.gov at the Public Affairs Section of the U.S Embassy.
