The U.S. Embassy in Serbia has announced the opening of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program competition for the 2026-2027 academic year. This program offers non-degree post-doctoral awards to junior and senior researchers, university lecturers, and experts from Serbian academic institutions. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct advanced research or lecture at a university in the United States.
Applicants must be affiliated with a higher education institution in Serbia and demonstrate the capacity to fully engage with the program's offerings. The Embassy emphasizes that this experience should benefit both the individual scholar and their home university upon return, as well as enrich U.S. host institutions.
Eligible fields of specialization include Agriculture, American Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Architecture, Art History, Astronomy, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Communications, Computer Science, Creative Writing, Dance, Economics, Education, Engineering among others.
The grant period ranges from three to nine months. Applicants must be Serbian citizens holding a Ph.D., proficient in English and eligible for a J-1 visa requiring return to Serbia for two years after completion of the grant.
Applications involving clinical contact are not eligible. The program provides a small allowance for dependents accompanying scholars.
Interested candidates must apply online by October 15, 2025. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed later in 2025 with final selections made in spring 2026.
