Yaoundé, Cameroon – The U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé has announced immediate changes to its visa procedures, aligning with the U.S. Government's global efforts to tighten immigration requirements. Cameroonian citizens applying for tourist, business, exchange, or student visas will now receive a single-entry visa valid for three months. The issuance fee has been significantly reduced to $35 or its equivalent in FCFA from the previous $215, payable upon approval. Temporary work visas have also been adjusted to a single-entry, three-month validity with a reduced fee of $45.
A U.S. visa allows travel to the United States until its expiration date; however, the duration of stay is determined by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol upon arrival.
The Embassy has suspended indefinitely the nonimmigrant visa interview waiver program that allowed some applicants with prior visas to apply without an interview. All nonimmigrant visa applicants in Cameroon must now attend an in-person interview at the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé.
The Embassy emphasizes its commitment to facilitating legitimate travel while maintaining the integrity of its visa process. Applicants are encouraged to visit the Embassy’s website for detailed procedural information and schedule interviews accordingly. Reviewing eligibility criteria before paying for an appointment is advised to avoid unnecessary applications likely to be denied.
