The United States Consulate General in Sydney has announced the arrival of Jeremy Cornforth as the new Consul General. Cornforth will have consular responsibilities across New South Wales and Queensland, two of Australia's most dynamic states.

Consul General Cornforth expressed his pride in representing the United States and strengthening U.S.-Australia relations. He stated, “More than half the Australian population lives in these two states, so to be able to represent the United States and strengthen the U.S.-Australia relationship across a whole range of areas is an honor.”

Cornforth is a seasoned diplomat and career member of the Senior Foreign Service. His most recent position was Deputy Director at the American Institute in Taiwan. His arrival coincides with a significant period for U.S.-Australia relations, highlighting that "Australia has no closer friend than the United States."

He plans to engage with communities throughout New South Wales and Queensland to build on existing relationships. “I’m looking forward to visiting all of the beautiful places across Queensland and New South Wales,” he said. “But more than that, I’m looking forward to meeting the Australians who live in those places, and hearing from them how we can partner more effectively – in investment and economic cooperation, in security, in law enforcement, science, education, and of course in culture and tourism."

Cornforth joined the Foreign Service in 1998 with previous postings including Israel, Dominican Republic, India, Tunisia, Lebanon, China as well as domestic roles within various bureaus. He holds a history degree from Union College in Nebraska and is a distinguished graduate of the National War College.
