Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit Kuala Lumpur from July 8 to 12. During his stay, he will attend the ASEAN-United States Post-Ministerial Conference, the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the ASEAN Regional Forum Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Additionally, Secretary Rubio plans to meet with senior Malaysian government officials.
This trip marks Secretary Rubio's first visit to Asia in his current role. His focus will be on reaffirming the United States' dedication to promoting a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region.
While in Malaysia, Secretary Rubio intends to emphasize the strength of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the United States and ASEAN. He aims to highlight how this partnership benefits both American citizens and those in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, he will express commitment towards enhancing the Comprehensive Partnership with Malaysia.
