Siemens has inaugurated a new train factory and service center in Munich-Allach, marking a significant investment in the region's rail industry. The facility, which is set to become a global competence center for Siemens Mobility, involves an investment of approximately €250 million. Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, stated that the expansion combines efficiency and innovation, aiming to transform traditional manufacturing processes with AI-based applications and advanced production technologies.
Karl Blaim, CFO of Siemens Mobility, emphasized the importance of the Munich-Allach location as a beacon of their innovation strategy. He highlighted that the expansion will create over 500 additional jobs and consolidate key functions such as management, development, production, and service in one location. This move aims to secure Siemens' role as an industry leader while strengthening Munich's economic power.
The expansion will see the Munich-Allach facilities grow from 47,000 to over 100,000 square meters. This increase will allow for the production of up to 385 Vectron locomotives and 180 passenger cars annually. State-of-the-art technologies like laser-guided installation and AI-enabled quality management will be employed to enhance efficiency and flexibility in meeting market demands.
Additionally, the Rail Service Center at Munich-Allach is undergoing substantial expansion. Its capacity for locomotive overhauls and accident repairs is expected to triple by 2026. The new building will feature specialized workshops for bogies and wheelsets along with four new service tracks.
Siemens Mobility plans to relocate its headquarters from Munich-Perlach to Munich-Allach as part of this initiative. By 2028, it expects to employ over 2,500 people at this site. This growth is intended to provide an economic boost to both the city and district of Munich while reinforcing Siemens Mobility’s commitment to creating highly qualified jobs in Germany.
