Kara C. McDonald Ambassador | U.S. Embassy in Lithuania

Ambassador McDonald addressed attendees at the U.S. Embassy's Independence Day reception held at the Palace of the Grand Dukes in Vilnius, Lithuania. The event celebrated the 249th anniversary of U.S. independence and highlighted the strong partnership between the United States and Lithuania.

In his remarks, Ambassador McDonald emphasized the importance of freedom as a foundation for the U.S.-Lithuanian partnership. He stated, "Today we celebrate freedom! The U.S.-Lithuanian partnership is one deeply rooted in freedom."

The ambassador reflected on the historical significance of the venue, noting its role as a symbol of resilience and independence for Lithuania. He described it as "a fitting backdrop for celebrating the strength of the Alliance between our two nations."

Ambassador McDonald highlighted ongoing military cooperation between the two countries, mentioning recent troop rotations and joint exercises. He remarked, "Our heel-to-toe troop rotations of more than one thousand soldiers ensures a continuous readiness and deterrence." Additionally, he praised Lithuania's response during a critical moment when four U.S. soldiers went missing earlier this year.

Economic collaboration was also a focal point of his speech. Ambassador McDonald discussed recent investments exceeding $100 million in sectors such as manufacturing, defense, and technology. He noted that these investments reflect "the robust and dynamic partnership between our nations."

The ambassador acknowledged interactions with various stakeholders over the past year, including companies, government officials, students, and emerging leaders. He emphasized that "our partnership is not just between governments – it’s between people."

In closing, Ambassador McDonald toasted to continued friendship and cooperation between the United States and Lithuania: "May it serve as a reminder, may it inspire us, and may it summon us to work in the year ahead: to deepen our friendship, to fortify our unity, and to strengthen our partnership in freedom."
