The U.S. Embassy in Kolonia, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), has issued a travel alert advising U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. This follows the March 19, 2020 Global Level 4 Health Advisory by the Department of State.

U.S. citizens residing in the United States are urged to arrange for immediate return unless they are prepared to remain abroad indefinitely. Those considering returning should coordinate with United Airlines while flights are still available. The embassy is compiling a list of individuals seeking to leave FSM in case commercial options cease.

Interested individuals should email KoloniaACS@state.gov with requested information if they wish to be considered for a U.S. government-organized flight. These flights prioritize U.S. citizens and their Legal Permanent Resident family members traveling with them.

Passengers on these flights must pay for their tickets, potentially at higher rates than standard fares, and sign a promissory note before boarding. They will also bear any costs related to onward travel from their initial destination in the United States.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for security messages and alerts, ensuring they can be located during emergencies.

For more information or assistance, contact the U.S. Embassy Kolonia at +691 320-2187 or +691 920-2369 after hours, or email KoloniaACS@state.gov.
