Pohnpei State officials have received COVID-19 testing kits from the U.S. Government. These kits will enable health officials to conduct testing within the country, eliminating the need to send samples to Guam or Honolulu. The handover was attended by Governor Reed B. Oliver, Pohnpei State Director of Health & Social Affairs Wincener David, and Pohnpei State Chief of Staff Suzanne Lowe Gallen, who received the kits from Ambassador Cantor.
Governor Oliver expressed gratitude, stating, “I thank the U.S. government for supplying our state with the testing kits, we greatly appreciate your support.”
During the event, Ambassador Cantor and Governor Oliver exchanged an elbow bump before transferring the COVID-19 testing kits. It is noted that other states such as Kosrae, Yap, and Chuuk are also expected to receive their testing kits soon. The funding for these kits comes from the U.S. Government through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The U.S. Mission has expressed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with Pohnpei State and serving the people of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).
