The United States has reiterated its concerns to UN Secretary-General António Guterres regarding Francesca Albanese, the "United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967." The U.S. is urging the Secretary-General to condemn her activities and seek her removal, warning that failure to act could discredit the United Nations and necessitate significant responses to Ms. Albanese's conduct.
Recently, Ms. Albanese has intensified her actions by sending threatening letters to numerous global entities, including major American corporations. These communications are said to present flawed legal arguments accusing these organizations of complicity in severe human rights violations, apartheid, and genocide. The U.S. describes this as an unacceptable campaign against both American and global economies.
The allegations made by Ms. Albanese that Israel is committing "genocide" and engaging in "apartheid" have been labeled false and offensive by the United States. Earlier this year, the U.S. opposed renewing Ms. Albanese's appointment, suggesting it would show disregard for the code of conduct expected from Special Rapporteurs and tarnish the reputation of the United Nations.
The U.S. claims that Ms. Albanese's antisemitism and support for terrorism make her unsuitable for her role as Special Rapporteur. It also challenges her qualifications, noting she has misrepresented herself as an international lawyer without having passed a bar examination or being licensed to practice law.
The United States continues to urge Secretary-General Guterres to denounce Ms. Albanese's actions directly and advocate for her removal from her position as Special Rapporteur.
