Dr. Non Vaughan Williams, a media lecturer originally from Tregaron and now residing in Llanddarog near Carmarthen, has been recognized for her significant contributions to students' lives at Swansea University. The award, presented by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol on June 19 in Carmarthen, was based on nominations directly from students.

Cara Walters, a student at Swansea University, nominated Dr. Vaughan Williams. Walters praised her efforts: “Non has made a significant difference to the learning experiences of Welsh-speaking students across the institution. She has led employability projects to ensure we have suitable, purposeful and relevant courses and resources that specifically prepare us for a career in the media in Wales."

Walters further highlighted Dr. Vaughan Williams's commitment to equal opportunities for Welsh-speaking students and her role in establishing a panel of media industry experts to keep the course modern and relevant.

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Vaughan Williams expressed gratitude: “This award means a lot to me because it was the students who nominated me. I’ve been teaching in the higher education sector for a number of years, so it’s lovely to receive recognition that I’m still doing something right!"

She also mentioned her future goals: “Looking ahead, I hope to incorporate innovative teaching methods in the classroom so that students graduate with confidence and are ready to enter the world of work or pursue postgraduate research.”

Geraint Evans, Chief Executive of S4C, presented the award and commented on Dr. Vaughan Williams's dedication: “Her aim and passion is to provide the best possible opportunities for students of all confidence levels, including those from underrepresented backgrounds, and to prepare them for a successful career in contemporary Wales.”

The ceremony also recognized 13 other individuals for their outstanding contributions across various educational sectors in Wales.
