The foreign ministers of the Quad nations—Australia, India, Japan, and the United States—convened in Washington D.C. on July 1, 2025. The meeting focused on reinforcing their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region. They emphasized their shared resolve to uphold the rule of law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in the maritime domain.

The discussions centered around opportunities and challenges in the Indo-Pacific and ways to leverage the strengths of the Quad for advancing regional peace, security, and prosperity. A new agenda was announced with a focus on four key areas: maritime and transnational security, economic prosperity and security, critical and emerging technology, and humanitarian assistance.

The ministers expressed concern over activities in the East China Sea and South China Sea that threaten regional stability. They reiterated opposition to any unilateral actions altering the status quo by force or coercion. The statement also highlighted issues related to supply chains for critical minerals and called for diversified global supply chains to prevent economic coercion.

Regarding North Korea, the Quad condemned its ballistic missile launches and nuclear pursuits. They urged adherence to UN Security Council resolutions aimed at denuclearization. Concerns were also raised about North Korea's cyber activities.

The worsening crisis in Myanmar was another topic of concern. The ministers urged adherence to ceasefire commitments and supported ASEAN’s efforts towards a peaceful resolution.

Condemnation of terrorism was reiterated following an attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Initiatives were announced to strengthen security across various domains within the Indo-Pacific region including launching a Quad Critical Minerals Initiative aimed at securing supply chains.

Looking ahead, further cooperation is planned with upcoming events such as the Quad Leaders’ Summit hosted by India later this year.
