The United States has completed the construction and handover of a $3.7 million auditorium to the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF). This facility, part of the International Peace Support Operations Training Center (IPSOTC), is designed for training and professional military education. It can accommodate over 1,500 trainees and includes significant audio-visual and IT infrastructure. The building also provides storage, office space, and conference rooms for various UPDF activities such as conferences and workshops.
This development follows the delivery of a United Nations Level 2 Hospital valued at $5.5 million in October 2024, and a vehicle maintenance facility worth $1.5 million in December 2024. Most U.S. defense cooperation in Uganda supports health programs benefiting Ugandan citizens directly.
The U.S.'s efforts are aimed at enhancing regional peacekeeping capabilities and stability, which benefits both Uganda and global security. Programs like the African Peacekeeping Rapid Response Partnership (APPRP) and Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) have been crucial in strengthening Africa's readiness for rapid peacekeeping deployment.
