The U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus, Davis, addressed a gathering at the University of Cyprus Old Campus to mark America's Independence Day. The event highlighted the ties between the United States and Cyprus, with an emphasis on shared values and ongoing cooperation.

"The guiding principles established in the Declaration of Independence 249 years ago fostered freedom, innovation, and opportunity for generations of Americans," Davis said. He emphasized that these principles remain relevant amid current global challenges.

Davis acknowledged New Jersey's role in strengthening relations between the two countries through the National Guard partnership program. "The state of New Jersey inspired our festivities," he noted.

The ambassador extended gratitude to Rector Christofides of the University of Cyprus for hosting the event and praised sponsors from various sectors for their contributions. "These American companies and American-affiliated companies... are forging closer ties between our countries," he stated.

Davis also mentioned his recent work in Kyiv related to President Trump's peace efforts in Ukraine. He thanked Cypriot President Christodoulides for supporting his dual responsibilities. "Your support for this arrangement... speaks to the exceptional level of trust we have built between our nations."

In discussions with Foreign Minister Kombos, Secretary Rubio appreciated Cyprus' role in aiding American citizens during regional conflicts. Davis expressed thanks to Cypriot colleagues who helped ensure safety during crises.

Highlighting bilateral achievements, Davis referenced initiatives like a Strategic Dialogue and visits by President Christodoulides to various U.S. states as evidence of strengthened ties. Economic cooperation was noted as a key outcome: "We have seen some outstanding American-Cypriot partnerships deliver for both our economies."

Addressing conflicts worldwide, Davis reiterated U.S. diplomatic efforts under President Trump’s leadership to resolve issues in Ukraine and Iran while emphasizing Cyprus’ supportive role.

Regarding the division of Cyprus itself, Davis reaffirmed U.S. policy favoring reunification aligned with UN resolutions and expressed optimism about progress with newly appointed envoys Maria Angela Holguin and Johannes Hahn.

Before concluding, Davis thanked those involved in organizing the celebration which featured music by Naval Forces Europe and Africa Band, noting regular visits by American ships to Cypriot ports enhance naval capabilities.

"Thank you all so very much for joining us tonight to celebrate Independence Day," Davis concluded, quoting Frank Sinatra: “the best is yet to come.”
