The U.S. Mission to Vietnam has announced the 2026–2027 Fulbright Vietnamese Visiting Scholar Program and the Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of U.S.-Vietnam relations.
Eligibility for applicants includes holding an M.A. or Ph.D. degree, being a Vietnamese citizen without dual citizenship or permanent residency in another country, and proficiency in English. Suitable candidates are university faculty, government officials, private sector professionals, or those working at research institutes or think tanks. A significant record of scholarly or professional accomplishments is expected. Applicants must reside in Vietnam during the nomination and selection process and return after their stay in the U.S.
All scholarships must adhere to federal regulations and relevant White House Executive Orders.
Ineligibility criteria include currently residing, teaching, studying, or conducting research in the United States or having received a Fulbright grant within the past five years. Additionally, those who have been J-1 Exchange Visitors as Professors or Research Scholars in the past two years are not eligible.
For the Fulbright Vietnamese Visiting Scholar Program, applicants can choose between a semester grant (five months) starting in September 2026 or January 2027, or a full academic year grant (nine months) beginning in September 2026.
The Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program offers grants for three to four months during early 2027 for research on ASEAN-related issues.
Applications are open to individuals with expertise in social sciences, humanities, science, technology, with special encouragement for those specializing in American Studies. The application deadline is October 31, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., Vietnam time.
