KfW has reached the final stage of its promotional roadmap for heating system replacement subsidies, enabling municipalities to submit evidence digitally. As of June 26, 2025, municipalities that have received a grant commitment from KfW for climate-friendly heating systems can now use the bank's online portal for verification and disbursement.

This update means that private, commercial, and municipal customers can utilize a fully digital process for applications and evidence submission. The automated system facilitates approvals and review documents related to heating system replacement subsidies.

For all customers—corporate, private, or municipal—the promotional funds are reserved upon receiving a grant commitment from KfW. They must implement the measure within 36 months from the commitment date. To ensure disbursement after completion, required evidence must be submitted digitally within six months of the final invoice date.

After KfW reviews the supporting documents and confirms eligibility requirements are met, grants are transferred to customer accounts. This usually occurs by the end of the month following evidence review.

KfW began implementing this roadmap on February 27, 2024. By the end of that year, it approved nearly 227,000 applications with a total volume of EUR 3.3 billion. In early 2025, around 88,000 additional commitments totaling EUR 1.2 billion were received. Heat pumps represent approximately 80% of commitments in 2025. Since September 2024's start of digital submissions, about 120,000 supporting documents were submitted by March 31, 2025.
