Jean Pesme has assumed the role of Division Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan at the World Bank. With a background in engineering and extensive experience in economic development, Pesme joined the World Bank in 2003. His previous roles include serving as Global Director, Finance, where he led efforts to develop stable and inclusive financial systems.
Pesme expressed enthusiasm about his new position, stating, "Bhutan has set a bold vision for its future and to match this level of ambition, the World Bank Group has stepped up support to the country." He highlighted plans to collaborate with private sector arms IFC and MIGA to boost private sector growth and investment.
In his new role, Pesme will guide strategic dialogue with Bangladesh and Bhutan to align World Bank initiatives with each country's development goals. The focus will be on ensuring programs are consistent with the World Bank Group's mission while prioritizing selectivity, speed, scale, impact, and partnerships.
The partnership between Bhutan and the World Bank spans over four decades. Currently, there is an ongoing program involving nearly half a billion dollars across four projects.
