Peter T. Shea has taken on the role of Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Jordan as of June 29, 2025. A seasoned member of the Senior Foreign Service, Shea previously served as a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA). He also held the position of Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in Beirut, Lebanon on three separate occasions.
Shea's past roles include serving as Deputy Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul and Deputy Political Counselor in Amman. His international experience extends to assignments in Cairo, Baghdad, and Moscow. In Washington, he directed NEA’s Office of Iraq Affairs and coordinated NATO-Afghanistan operations.
Before joining the Foreign Service, Shea worked as a senior national security consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. He holds a Master’s degree from Georgetown University and a Bachelor’s degree from The American University. Originally from Worcester, Massachusetts, Shea is accompanied by his wife and three children in Amman.
