Mark Stroh has assumed the role of Chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Denmark, following his appointment as Deputy Chief of Mission in June 2025.
Stroh is a seasoned member of the Senior Foreign Service, having joined the Department of State in 2003. His most recent position was as a Senior Advisor on Ukraine’s economic recovery at the Department of State. He has also held various roles including U.S. Consul General in Erbil, Iraq, and Team Leader for U.S. Embassy Kyiv’s external operations platform based in Rzeszow, Poland.
His career includes positions such as Consul General in Karachi, Pakistan; Acting Assistant Secretary and Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs; and Team Leader of the Syria Transition Assistance Response Team (START) Forward in northeastern Syria. For his work in Syria, Stroh received both the State Department’s Ryan C. Crocker Award for Outstanding Leadership in Expeditionary Diplomacy and the Department of Defense’s Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award.
Stroh's extensive experience also includes assignments in Kuwait City, Basra and Al-Hillah, Riyadh, Kabul, Islamabad, Rio de Janeiro, and various roles within Washington with both the National Security Council and for the Secretary of State.
Before entering public service, Stroh worked as a journalist for several publications including the Philadelphia Inquirer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Randolph-Macon College and a Master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
