The U.S. Embassy has issued a notification to American citizens residing in Eswatini about a potential demonstration scheduled for the morning of Friday, June 27. The event is expected to take place in front of the Eswatini Commission on Human Rights and Public Administration, located at the Sibekelo Building, opposite the Hilton Hotel.
This announcement comes as the region approaches the anniversary of political violence that occurred on June 29, 2021. The embassy warns that such demonstrations may lead to disruptions in pedestrian and vehicular traffic. They caution that even peaceful protests can quickly become confrontational and potentially escalate into violence.
The embassy advises individuals to exercise caution if they find themselves near large gatherings or demonstrations. "If you are able, immediately leave the area," they recommend.
Currently, there is no indication that U.S. citizens or interests will be specifically targeted during these demonstrations.
For further information or updates, U.S. citizens can contact the Embassy of the United States of America located at Corner of MR103 & Cultural Centre Drive, The Gables, Ezulwini, Kingdom of Eswatini. Additional resources are available on their website and social media platforms.
