The NAB Foundation has announced a $100,000 grant to Rural Aid, aimed at providing urgent feed relief in areas of New South Wales affected by recent floods. This initiative seeks to support farmers by coordinating hay drops and offering outreach services to families impacted by the flooding.
Khan Horne, NAB Regional and Agribusiness Executive, highlighted the challenges faced by farmers who are still recovering from the 2021 floods. "Farmers across Australia are doing it really tough at the moment," he stated. He emphasized the urgent need for fodder in New South Wales to help sustain livestock and assist farmers in their recovery efforts.
Rural Aid plans to distribute hay to approximately 25 farmers over the coming weeks, with deliveries scheduled for Oxley Island and Dumaresq Island this week. Mr. Horne urged those facing difficulties to reach out for assistance early, noting that there are ways banks can provide help.
John Warlters, CEO of Rural Aid, expressed gratitude for NAB's donation, underscoring its significance beyond financial aid. "Support from partners like NAB Foundation is more than financial; it’s a reminder to farmers that they’re not alone," Warlters said. He noted that such support lifts spirits across communities and contributes to a hopeful outlook for rural areas.
This latest funding adds to the $100,000 already provided earlier this month for drought-affected regions in South Australia and Victoria. Additionally, NAB has allocated $1.32 million in Disaster Relief Grants for those affected by the Mid North Coast Floods.
