The partnership between Swansea University and Nanjing Tech University (NJTU) marks a significant milestone in educational collaboration. The agreement, described as the largest of its kind for Swansea, involves the Joint Education Institute (JEI) delivering dual undergraduate and postgraduate taught programs, alongside a doctoral degree program from Swansea.

Starting in September 2025, students will be able to enroll in double undergraduate degrees. Postgraduate taught (PGT) and PhD programs are set to commence in September 2026. This initiative allows students to study a co-designed curriculum entirely at NJTU, with instruction provided by faculty from both institutions on the NJTU campus. Upon completion, students will receive two separate degrees—one from each university.

The programs focus on Engineering disciplines and are expected to accommodate nearly 1,200 students when fully operational. The JEI has secured approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education, with the Swansea-Nanjing proposal being one of only 11 UK submissions to receive such endorsement.

Professor Jiawei Wang from Swansea University has been appointed Vice-Dean of the Joint Education Institute, overseeing academic and teaching affairs. He expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration: "I am proud to support this unique collaboration between Swansea University and Nanjing Tech University. This partnership represents a significant step in global education, offering students a truly international experience and equipping them with the skills to thrive in a connected world."

Professor Paul Boyle, Vice-Chancellor of Swansea University also commented on this development.
