The United States Department of Defense hosted a Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) with the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) from June 4-5, 2025, at the Joint Region Marianas Headquarters in Guam. This meeting aimed to discuss key issues related to the bilateral defense and security partnership as outlined by Title III of the Compact of Free Association.

Leading the U.S. delegation were Rear Admiral Joshua Lasky, Commander of Joint Task Force – Micronesia, and Jennifer Johnson, U.S. Ambassador to the FSM. The FSM delegation was led by Secretary of Foreign Affairs Lorin Robert.

Key topics included law enforcement training, economic security of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), Chuuk oil removal, unexploded ordnance (UXO) removal, NOAA weather station in Kosrae, and veterans' benefits. The meeting fostered a productive atmosphere that encouraged collaboration and strengthened relationships between leaders.

A primary focus was on internal security concerns for the FSM. Delegates addressed challenges faced by law enforcement such as training in chain of custody for evidence and police support for court cases. Discussions also explored U.S. support for patrolling the FSM's EEZ and opportunities for further engagement including legal studies assistance and marine survey data sharing.

The meeting also highlighted recent and upcoming U.S. military projects in the FSM. Ambassador Johnson offered U.S. Government assistance with priorities discussed across FSM and state governments.
