The United States Embassy in Slovenia recently hosted an event celebrating the 249th Independence Day of the United States. The celebration marked a significant occasion as it was the final one for the current U.S. representative in Slovenia.

The U.S. Embassy team, with contributions from Tom Smith, the event coordinator, and Jessica MacDonald, an embassy member, organized the event. Attendees enjoyed a performance by the Rhine River Ramblers and acknowledged the sponsors who made the gathering possible.

During his speech, the representative reflected on America's founding principles of liberty and representative government. He emphasized that these ideals continue to guide the nation today.

He highlighted shared values between Slovenia and the United States, noting their mutual commitment to independence and building a secure future. Strengthening economic ties with Slovenia is a priority for the U.S., with efforts to encourage investment and collaboration between both nations.

American companies are drawn to Slovenia's skilled workforce and strategic location in Europe. Conversely, Slovenian businesses are finding opportunities in America, driven by innovation and entrepreneurship. The U.S. remains a top destination for global investment.

The partnership between both countries extends into energy cooperation. For 40 years, American technology has powered Slovenia's Krško Nuclear Power Plant, fostering technical expertise and safety in nuclear energy. The U.S. supports Slovenia's exploration of new energy sources as part of its expanded energy strategy.

Beyond economics and energy, educational exchanges through programs like Fulbright have connected American and Slovenian scholars for six decades, promoting discovery and dialogue.

The personal connections also include notable figures such as Luka Dončić in sports, chef Ana Roš in culinary arts, and First Lady Melania Trump representing Slovenian heritage in American culture.

The evening celebrated not only America's birth but also underscored the friendship between Slovenia and America based on respect and cooperation.
