On June 25, 2025, a representative from the U.S. Embassy and Diplomatic Security’s Antiterrorism Assistance Program addressed attendees at the Cyber Awareness for Prosecutors Course. The course had faced delays but was finally convened to discuss the critical topic of cyber crimes.

The event saw participation from Admiral Deputy General Prosecutor Jano, instructors Curt Perkins and Scott Longo, along with colleagues from the embassy. Prosecutors traveled from various parts of Albania to attend this session aimed at equipping them with necessary skills to combat cyber threats.

In his remarks, the speaker emphasized the growing importance of addressing cyber crimes in today's interconnected world. He noted that such crimes pose significant threats to national security and economic stability. "Criminals, terrorists, repressive regimes, and other actors misuse digital tools that threaten international peace and stability," he stated.

The recent attribution by Albania’s National Cyber Security Authority of a cyber incident involving Tirana Municipality to Iranian actors highlighted the pressing nature of these threats. "Modern wars start online," he remarked, underscoring the necessity for robust cyber defenses.

Training provided during this course is intended to help prosecutors stay ahead of sophisticated technologies used by malign actors. The U.S. government has been actively supporting Albania in building its cyber defense capabilities since destructive intrusions occurred in July and September 2022.

Participants engaged deeply with topics related to digital evidence crucial for prosecuting terrorism and major crimes. They gained insights into how criminals exploit technology for malicious purposes.

As participants return to their districts, they are expected to apply their newfound knowledge in fighting crime effectively. The U.S.-Albania partnership remains strong both offline and online as they continue collaborating on cybersecurity issues.
