U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to Saudi Arabia are advised to register for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). Those who have not registered in the past nine months should re-enroll to ensure they receive the latest updates.
The updated STEP platform now offers users the ability to use a login.gov account, allowing them to customize subscriptions and receive country-specific email alerts for their chosen timeframe. The platform supports enrollment for multiple trips or locations simultaneously and allows users to modify subscriptions or unenroll at any time.
"Enrolling in STEP makes it easier for the nearest U.S embassy or consulate to contact you during an emergency and send you safety and security alerts," states the advisory. "We strongly encourage all U.S. citizens traveling or living abroad to enroll or re-enroll today to take advantage of new functionality."
To enroll, individuals should visit state.gov and set their preferences on the updated STEP platform. This ensures continued receipt of alerts and messages from U.S. embassies. Information is available under Emergency Information for American Citizens on their website, with a direct link provided: https://mytravel.state.gov/s/step.
The advisory also encourages travelers to urge friends and family living internationally to enroll in STEP. Participants can opt for alerts tailored either for individual trips or long-term notifications specific to countries where they or their loved ones are visiting or residing.
Additionally, following the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs on social media (@travelgov) as well as staying connected with local U.S. embassies or consulates is recommended.
