ANZ has announced that Maile Carnegie will retire from her role as Group Executive Australia Retail on July 1, 2025. Carnegie intends to focus on non-executive roles after a 33-year career in executive positions.
Carnegie joined ANZ in 2016 as Group Executive Digital Banking, where she worked on enhancing the digital experience for customers and oversaw marketing responsibilities. Since 2022, she has led ANZ's retail business in Australia, serving over six million customers.
ANZ CEO Nuno Matos stated: “Since joining ANZ in 2016, Maile has had a significant impact across payments, marketing, digitisation and most recently leading our retail business in Australia."
Matos also noted that upon his arrival at ANZ last month, Carnegie expressed her desire to transition to a non-executive career outside the bank. He added: "I wish to extend my appreciation for her efforts in supporting my early days as CEO. On behalf of everyone at ANZ, I wish her well with the next phase of her career and thank her for all her efforts.”
Bruce Rush, currently CEO of Suncorp Bank, has been appointed Acting Group Executive Australia Retail & Suncorp Bank while a global search is conducted for Carnegie's successor. Carnegie will assist with the transition throughout July.
Rush joined Suncorp Bank from Santander UK in 2010 and has held senior roles related to strategy, deposits, and home lending. He became CEO of Suncorp Bank in August 2024.
Matos commented: “Bruce is an experienced retail banker who has done an outstanding job as CEO of Suncorp Bank. His appointment will also assist with the migration of Suncorp Bank customers to ANZ while we conduct a global search for the next leader of our retail business in Australia.”
