The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a report indicating that Tropical Storm Erick is gaining strength and is expected to escalate into a hurricane. The storm is projected to make landfall as early as Wednesday, June 18. A Hurricane Warning has been declared for the states of Oaxaca and Guerrero, particularly in areas stretching from Huatulco to Punta Maldonado, which includes Puerto Escondido. Additionally, a Tropical Storm Warning covers regions east of Huatulco to Salina Cruz in Oaxaca. A Hurricane Watch is also in place for Guerrero, from Punta Maldonado to Zihuatanejo, encompassing Acapulco.

U.S. citizens located in these affected areas are advised to keep track of the developments regarding Tropical Storm Erick.

Travelers with plans to visit coastal areas in Oaxaca and Guerrero should remain vigilant. This advisory specifically pertains to locations such as Puerto Escondido, Huatulco, and Acapulco. Flight schedules may be disrupted; travelers are encouraged to verify their flight status with airlines. Road conditions could deteriorate due to potential flooding and mudslides, especially in regions characterized by steep terrain; therefore, checking road conditions before traveling is recommended.

Residents and visitors should prepare for possible sheltering needs and stay informed through local media updates while adhering to instructions from local authorities. In emergencies, individuals should contact emergency services by dialing 911.

Monitoring resources include the National Hurricane Center and the Mexican National Meteorological Service (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional) for storm activity updates and emergency responses. Additionally, the websites of Oaxaca State Civil Protection and Guerrero State Civil Protection provide information on emergency responses, road conditions, and available shelters.

It is advisable for individuals to maintain communication with friends and family regarding their whereabouts via phone calls, text messages, or social media platforms.
