Bucharest, Romania – The Maryland National Guard Cyber Forces collaborated with the Romanian Cyber Defense Command and specialists from the Land Forces General Staff to monitor cyber threats during the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment’s tactical road march. This exercise was part of Saber Guardian 25, a significant U.S. Army security cooperation exercise along NATO’s Eastern Flank.
The exercise showcased the interoperability of U.S. and Romanian cyber capabilities in a real-world setting, enhancing NATO's cyber resilience. It facilitated knowledge exchange between the two nations, bolstered their defensive cyber capabilities, and contributed to a robust defense posture across Europe.
Simulated scenarios included ransomware incidents, attacks on web services, and attempts to access critical systems without authorization. These simulations aim to strengthen the collective cyber resilience of all NATO Allies and partners.
U.S. Chargé d’affaires Michael Dickerson stated, “Romania and the United States work together as partners in cybersecurity. This Saber Guardian cyber exercise strengthens our collaboration in a critical field, protecting our countries, keeping our citizens and military safe, and strengthening international partnerships within the NATO alliance.”
Saber Guardian 25 is designed to rehearse NATO land component mission command and improve coordination among Allied and partner forces. It is part of DEFENDER 25, led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, involving over 25,000 troops from 29 nations.
