ANZ appoints Lachlan Halstead as new country head for China

ANZ has announced the appointment of Lachlan Halstead as Country Head ANZ China. This appointment is pending regulatory approval, and Mr. Halstead will report to Simon Ireland, Managing Director, International.

Lachlan Halstead brings extensive experience from his previous roles across the Asia Pacific region. His past positions include ANZ Country Head Papua New Guinea and Chief Operating Officer roles in Australia, Singapore, and Vietnam. He also served as Program Director in India.

Simon Ireland commented on this development: “Lachlan has a proven track record of bolstering operational risk management, developing local talent and strengthening trade and capital flows across the region."

He further emphasized China's importance to ANZ: "China remains a critical market for ANZ, and our strategy to support multinational customers with trade and capital flows across the region has never been more important."

Ireland highlighted potential opportunities in China: "There are significant opportunities in China, particularly in supporting the development of emerging supply chains and banking local financial institutions. I’m confident that Lachlan is the right person to take our business into the next chapter."

He expressed satisfaction with making an internal appointment: “I’m pleased that we were able to make this appointment internally, reflecting the breadth and depth of leadership we have across the region.”

Mr. Halstead's start date is expected to be in September after obtaining necessary regulatory and travel approvals.
