The United States has extended its congratulations to Dr. Lai Ching-te following his victory in Taiwan's presidential election. The U.S. also acknowledged the citizens of Taiwan for demonstrating the strength of their democratic system and electoral process.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken emphasized the U.S.'s commitment to maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, advocating for a peaceful resolution of differences without coercion or pressure. "The partnership between the American people and the people on Taiwan, rooted in democratic values, continues to broaden and deepen across economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties," Blinken stated.

The U.S. looks forward to collaborating with Dr. Lai and leaders from all parties in Taiwan to advance shared interests and values while continuing an unofficial relationship consistent with its one China policy guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three Joint Communiques, and the Six Assurances.

Blinken expressed confidence that "Taiwan will continue to serve as an example for all who strive for freedom, democracy, and prosperity."
