Demonstrations and counter-demonstrations are taking place across Bolivia, potentially disrupting the flow of vehicles and goods. The U.S. Embassy in La Paz has issued an alert due to the possibility of increased confrontations between demonstrators and police at various points.
In response to the recent escalation of violence associated with blockades on major roads, U.S. embassy employees have been restricted from traveling by road between cities.
The embassy advises individuals to avoid areas where demonstrations and blockades are occurring, exercise caution near large gatherings or protests, ensure they have adequate supplies of food, water, and fuel for several days, monitor local media for updates, enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for security updates, and ensure their passport and other documents are current.
For assistance, contact the U.S. Embassy in La Paz at +(591) (2) 216-8000 or +(591) (2) 216-8500 after hours. Additional information can be found on their website or by following them on Facebook and Twitter.
