Samsung Electronics has announced the rollout of a software update for its Bespoke AI Refrigerators with screens, set to launch in 2025. The update aims to enhance user convenience and includes the Voice ID feature provided by Bixby, which was introduced at the "Welcome to Bespoke AI" global launch event in March.
Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team for Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, "Our primary goal for this year is to realize an AI Home that adapts intuitively to the user. We aim to enhance the user experience through continuous software upgrades for existing products, taking us one step closer to a true AI Home experience."
The Voice ID feature is a multi-voice recognition function provided by Bixby. It identifies users' voices registered on either the refrigerator or a Galaxy mobile device, allowing personalized features based on recognized users. This personalization enables consumers to tailor shared home appliances for individual use.
Bixby can switch to each user's Samsung account based on voice recognition. Users can access their registered schedules or photos using simple voice commands and trigger an alarm on their phone even when it's silent.
For users utilizing vision enhancements on their Galaxy phones, Bixby allows seamless interactions with the refrigerator screen without needing explicit account switches. The appliance's display modes synchronize with mobile phone settings like color inversion or grayscale.
Additionally, Samsung has introduced a new way to activate Bixby on-screen. Users can now double-tap the display when it's off as an alternative method alongside clicking the icon or using voice commands.
The update will first be applied to Bespoke AI Refrigerators with AI Family Hub launching in 2025 after completing updates on AI Family Hub screens or SmartThings. Samsung plans to extend this update gradually in the second quarter of 2025 for refrigerators with AI Home.
For these models, Samsung TV Plus service will expand beyond South Korea and the United States into Canada, Brazil, Australia, Mexico, and India. This expansion will allow consumers more entertainment options directly from their kitchens.
